New Releases - July 14 - 19

Dear Readers,

July is half over, August is rapidly approaching and that summer reading list is no shorter.  Here a few more titles to add.  Is there such a thing as a fall reading list?

Happy Reading,

The Amish Blacksmith - Mindy Starns Clark/Susan Meissner - #2 The Men of Lancaster County - Priscilla returns to Lancaster after 6 years.  She is still trying to get over her mother's death.  Jake is talented with horses and tries to "fix" Priscilla, but the attraction is something he is trying to deny.

The Lady and the Officer - Mary Ellis - #2 Civil War Heroines Series - Love, Loyalty, and Espionage... How does a lady live with all three?

The Healer's Touch - Lori Copeland - Lyric has resigned herself to a life of isolation because of her mother's mental illness.  When Ian happens into her life, she finds hope.  But Ian hasn't told her about his history.

Miracle in a Dry Season - Sarah Loudin Thomas - Perla arrives in Wise West Virginia hopefully unnoticed and unannounced.  She just wants a quiet life for her and her daughter.  Casewell planned on life as a bachelor.  But there is something about Perla that draws him to her.

With Every Breath - Elizabeth Camden - Kate's respectable life in the nation's capital is disrupted by a man she never wanted to see again.  Trevor McDonough.  He seeks her out to ask for her help to find a cure for tuberculosis.

In Perfect Time - Sarah Sundin - Wings of the Nightingale #3 - Lt. Kay Jobson has left a trail of broken hearts across Europe.  Lt. Roger Cooper seems immune to her charms.  But as they fly wounded soldiers out and paratroopers in, they learn more and more about each other.

New Release - The Butterfly and the Violin - Kristy Cambron

Dear Readers,

I said that I am taking time off from reading WWII books.  I needed a break from the intensity of the stories that have come out of the war.  The sacrifices that the people made for others and the cruelty of mankind on our fellow humans takes the breath away.  Books like The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron make that hard to stick to.

Sera James is in a fragile state.  She has not gotten over being betrayed at the alter by her then fiancĂ© and her world has not been the same since.  She throws herself into her work of art dealer and decides to find a painting that she remembers from her childhood.  As she does research for the painting it leads her back to Germany and the Auschwitz death camp.

I can not seem to keep this book on the shelf.  Every time I bring them in they are gone with in a day or two.  Word seems to be getting out about this book and more and more readers are looking for it.  It will not be an easy read, nothing about Auschwitz is, but it will be one that you will want to share with your fellow readers.

Happy Reading,

Lauraine Snelling

Dear Readers,

I have a new rule for selling fiction.   Anytime a book contains a story line that is about a boy and his dog, it needs to be sold with a box of tissues with it.  Heaven sent Rain by Lauraine Snelling is one of those that should have a box with it.

Dinah's life is well ordered, everything is in its place and she is happy.  Her company just made a big break through with a dietary supplement and it looks like everything is smooth sailing.  Then she stops for breakfast one morning and her perfect life is suddenly tangled up with Jonah.

Jonah is a very different 7 year old boy.  He seems to be taken care of, as his clothes are clean and neat.  He looks like he is getting enough to eat and yet every morning he and his dog are sitting outside of Extraburger.  Dinah stops and feeds them breakfast one morning and her life will never be the same.

Most of you will be able to figure out the story line quickly, but it does not take away the pleasure of reading this book.  It was a perfect read for a quiet Sunday afternoon.   It is heartwarming and a great reminder that we do live in a community and we need to take care of each other even when it knocks us out of our comfort zones.

I have enjoyed many of Lauraine’s books and recommend them to readers as often as I can.  The historical ones shine a light on different parts of America’s settling, while her contemporary ones often have an important lesson in a very gentle story.   I look forward to seeing what she has to say next.

New Release - Seagrass Pier - Colleen Coble

Dear Readers,

I love reading books that are set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  There is something about that place that I just loved visiting there and so to return, even if it is by book, is a treat.

Seagrass Pier by Colleen Coble is book number 3 in the Hope Beach series.  Each one has been a treat to read.  The way Colleen describes the area makes me want to hop in the car and hit the beaches again.

Elin Summerall was not only lucky enough to receive a new heart, but it was a perfect match.  Now she is experiencing flashbacks to a murder that she knows nothing about.  Is it the murder of her donor?  The killer seems to think so and knows that he must silence her before she tells anyone the identity.

An outer banks cottage set on a remote beach, what a great place to set a mystery.  Maybe not the best read if you are headed to a cottage, but a great one to add to that TBR list.

Happy Reading,

New Release - Between Us Girls - Sally John

Dear Readers,

There is something special about being able to curl up with a book that you know is going to be good even before you start.  Between Us Girls by Sally John is that kind of book.  You know and trust her to write a story that you can just sink into and enjoy

There is an oasis in Southern California that offers a place of acceptance and peace.  Jasmyn need a refuge to move past the disaster that is her life.  Samantha understands math, but not people.  They both struggle with their new neighbors, but soon find the love and understanding.

Olivia own the unique collection of cottages that offer a family that helps all the people who live there.  Whether the resident is looking for just some peace and quiet or have a need that only can be met with love and patience, this is the place to be.

Sally has a way of making you wish that you lived in the setting she creates in her books.  Her characters are real life and could be anyone of us or someone we love.  I have enjoyed several of her titles and look forward to reading many more of them.

New Release - Emma, Mr. Knightley and Chili-slaw Dogs - Mary Jane Hathaway

Dear Readers,

Because that is how publishing and ordering happens sometimes we actually got two of Mary Jane Hathaway's books in this week.  The second being Emma, Mr. Knightley and the Chili-Slaw Dogs, it is also part of the Jane Austen takes the South Series.

Emma%2C+Mr.+Knightley+and+Chili-Slaw+DogsCarolina leaves her job at the Washington Post after the sudden death of her father to take care of her fragile mother.  The only break she gets from anything and everything southern is her friend Brooks.  Brooks is a professor of journalism and a voice of reason in the midst of sweet tea and triple layer coconut cake.

When Carolina meets a interesting young man, Brooks realizes that he maybe loosing more than a friend, he maybe loosing the one woman he has been in love with for years.

Snappy, fun and a lovely peek into the southern culture makes these books fun to read and a great joy to add to that summer reading list that is probably already to long.  Of course maybe they will extend summer for us this year.

Happy Reading,
