Tosca Lee

Dear Readers,

When I first heard about the topic of Tosca Lee’s newest book, The Progeny, I was immediately interested.  Who would think to write a book, let alone a series, about the descendants of the most notorious female serial killer?  Well, Tosca of course.

The+ProgenyEmily Jacobs has no idea who she is or why she decided to have her memory wiped.  She is learning to do things again, like functioning in the world, interacting with fellow humans and taking care of herself.  It has been a process, one that it seems she needs to thank her caregiver for helping her through.  As Emily starts to venture out on her own, she meets a good-looking guy at the Food Mart and strikes up a friendship.  Just as she think she can trust him, things quickly spiral out of control.  She is not sure who she can trust and she remembers nothing from her past life.

This all happens very quickly at the beginning of the book. Almost quicker than you can get your feet under you with the story, you find yourself racing around the world.  There is much you learn right away, but it all builds on itself as you go along.

I am going to say that the ending of the book made is what made me really want to read the second book.  The whole book kept my attention and made me want to continue on the journey with Emily, but that ending, oh my that got me excited for the 2nd book.

I don't want to give anything away, as what fun is that for you.  But if you are into books that are well written, fast paced, with changes of direction and not knowing who can be trusted, then make sure you pick up Tosca's newest.

Tosca Lee

Dear Readers,
I have loved Tosca Lee’s writing since reading Demon a few years ago.  She writes books that make me think about her characters. She encourages questions and she challenges you to think beyond what is the normal thinking of her characters.  I never thought I would feel sorry for a demon, but Tosca requires that of her readers; don’t stay where it is comfortable.
Iscariot: A Novel of JudasJudas Iscariot is one of the most hated men in Christendom.  He betrayed Jesus to the Jewish leaders which lead to his crucifixion.  What is his story?  Who is he really and what did he expect from Jesus?  In Iscariot Tosca Lee asks and sometimes answers these questions.  Using what we know about Israeli history, she writes an interesting fiction story of Judas.
Judas was born during a turbulent time in Jewish history.  They are waiting for a Messiah to appear and throw off the oppression of Roman rule.  Judas loses his father and beloved older brother to a rebellion that goes wrong.   He vows to never look for another savior and to live out his life taking care of his family.  That is until he meets Jesus.
Is this the man they have been waiting for?  With all the signs and wonders that Judas witnesses he is sure he has found the one. Giving up family and reputation, Judas becomes a follower, believing that soon Jesus will organize an army and kick the hated Romans out.
One thing I did take away from this book is that Judas was human, just like you and me.  He was loved by his teacher, Jesus and yet chose to betray him to the authorities.  Why?   I think the one thing that the Judas story tells me is that I also try to make God who I want him to be instead of who he is.  I want a Savior who plays by my rules not the great plan that he has for mankind.

Tosca Lee

Dear Readers,
This book caught my interest the minute I heard about it. I know several of you read or tried to read Demon, it wasn't for everyone. I even struggled with it because it made me a bit uncomfortable.

Havah is the Story of Eve as the subtitle says. I understand that this is not necessarily how it was, but it sure was fun to imagine it.

Where they able to run with the Gazelles? Did they take naps while using a Lion as a pillow? What was it like to walk with God? Did it rain? How big was the garden? Did they get bored?

Now you can see why I liked this book. Of course this book doesn't answer all those questions, but what fun it is to think about it.

We all know the story of Adam and Eve and their (mankinds) fall. That happens very early on the book. It is reason behind the story, but it is only part of her story. Once the fall happens and they are removed from the garden, the rest of the story starts and is still happening today.
Imagine if all you knew was perfection. Your food at the ready. God's love shown to you as you walked along side of him. That all changed in two small bites. Now nothing is the same. Nothing is handed to you, rain is cold and comes to you in a storm and two of your animal "friends" are killed to clothe you. Imagine your confusion. Especially because you know that this is not how it was meant to be.

Ok ok I hear ya' all. I will stop giving the story lines away. I really like this story. I can't wait to discuss this book in our book club. It made me read the creation story again and even puts the Cain and Able story takes on a different light after you meet them and their mother.

Talk about putting flesh on a Bible story. This really does that. For the first time I saw Eve as a wife, mother, a woman and a child of God. She was not longer perfect, but she was still loved by God.
