Lauraine Snelling

Dear Readers,

I have a new rule for selling fiction.   Anytime a book contains a story line that is about a boy and his dog, it needs to be sold with a box of tissues with it.  Heaven sent Rain by Lauraine Snelling is one of those that should have a box with it.

Dinah's life is well ordered, everything is in its place and she is happy.  Her company just made a big break through with a dietary supplement and it looks like everything is smooth sailing.  Then she stops for breakfast one morning and her perfect life is suddenly tangled up with Jonah.

Jonah is a very different 7 year old boy.  He seems to be taken care of, as his clothes are clean and neat.  He looks like he is getting enough to eat and yet every morning he and his dog are sitting outside of Extraburger.  Dinah stops and feeds them breakfast one morning and her life will never be the same.

Most of you will be able to figure out the story line quickly, but it does not take away the pleasure of reading this book.  It was a perfect read for a quiet Sunday afternoon.   It is heartwarming and a great reminder that we do live in a community and we need to take care of each other even when it knocks us out of our comfort zones.

I have enjoyed many of Lauraine’s books and recommend them to readers as often as I can.  The historical ones shine a light on different parts of America’s settling, while her contemporary ones often have an important lesson in a very gentle story.   I look forward to seeing what she has to say next.

Happy Reading,

Lauraine Snelling

Dear Readers,
Wake+the+Dawn
With the Lauraine Snelling visit just around the corner, I wanted to read her newest release in advance and give you a short taste of the book.  I had a chance to read it while sitting in a beach chair while on vacation and believe it or not that is probably the perfect place to read it.  Of course that is best place to read any book.
Wake the Dawn releases on August 20th and Lauraine will be in our store on the 22nd talking about the story. She'll also speak about any of her other books that she has in print, including her second release this year, a long awaited prequel to the beloved Red River of the North Series, titled An Untamed Heart.  That book tells the story of Ingebord’s journey to America and how she settles in Red River.
Wake the Dawn on the other hand is a contemporary story set in the wilds of Minnesota where you meet Ben. Ben is still reeling from the loss of his beloved wife and unborn child.  He is finding the answers at the bottom of the bottle and is barely keeping his head above water.   Even with the people who love him trying to help him, he continues down a destructive path that may also lead to the loss of his job.
While out patrolling the known paths of illegals coming across the border, Ben and his dog find a baby hiding in the weeds.  Who would leave their baby behind and why?  Ben doesn’t know the answers to those questions but he does know he needs to get this baby help and he heads off to the local clinic as a terrible storm hits and cuts the city off from the rest of the world.
Esther is doing the best she can in a second rate clinic during a time of great crisis and when Ben is teamed up with her they find that they work well together in spite of some glaring problems they both have.
If you have enjoyed Lauraine’s contemporary books in the past, I am sure you will enjoy this one also.  If you have only read her historical then you are in for a treat with a different time period.  Lauraine has a way of writing about people that makes you care for them and even start thinking that you wished you lived in their neighborhood so you to could enjoy some time in their company.
This book is not a fast paced action/adventure book, but it does move right along and you are moved through Ben and Esther’s stories and how they each find out that they by themselves are not strong enough to overcome their past hurts.

Lauraine Snelling

Dear Readers,
I am happy to let you all know that we are going to have a very special visitor next month.  Lauraine Snelling is coming to our store!  She has not been in the West Michigan in over 5 years and we are so excited to be able to host her here at Baker.  She will be at our store on August 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Wake+the+DawnShe will be promoting her new book Wake the Dawn releasing on August 20th.  It is a contemporary novel set in Minnesota during a winter storm.  Ben is trying to recover from an accident that cost him the love of his life.  The problem is he is trying to recover through the bottle.
While driving his last patrol before the storm hits, Ben and his canine partner Bo discover a baby.  Ben rushes to get the baby to the nearest clinic before the storms get worse.  Trapped in the small clinic with Esther is trying to give the best care she can on a very limited budget.  They both have to face their past, will they be able to help each other with their futures.
Not only is Lauraine releasing this wonderful contemporary stand alone, in October she is releasing the much awaited prequel to her Red River of the North series with Untamed Heart.  The story of Ingeborg and how she decides to come to live in Red River.
Ingeborg is certain she is going to be an old maid.  Her mother suggests that she moved to America and start a new life for herself, but how will Ingeborg ever afford the trip across the ocean?
With two fantastic books to talk about, Lauraine will have a lot to share with us readers, come join us while Lauraine shares about her books and has a time of Q & A so you can ask those questions you have wanted to ask her about her books.
Happy Reading

Lauraine Snelling

Dear Readers,
Lauraine Snelling writes wonderful historical fiction.  She has many loyal followers that can't wait for her next book to come out.  She intersperses her historical with delightful contempary tales.  On Hummingbird Wings by Lauraine is her lastest in the contemporary genre.
On Hummingbird Wings by Lauraine SnellingOn Hummingbird Wings is a story of family and how dynamics can change over the years.  Gillian has lived her adult life in New York City and has loved every minute of it and can't think of a reason to ever leave.  Home is not calling her, in fact she hasn't been to visit in over 5 years.  So when her sister calls and tells her that her mother is dying and she needs to come help, Gillian surprises herself and her family when she grabs a plane and heads off to California.
Gillian finds things even worse than she expected, but she doesn't believe her mother is dying.  She believes she is tired and depressed because of a small stroke she had, but dying?  No. Can Gillian afford to stay, or does she need to go back to New York to try to save her job?  Why does she suddenly not feel like leaving?
This is a nice gentle story that is not a hard read.  I think the only complaint I have is that Lauraine leaves many questions unanswered.  I was going to list them for you here, but I don't want to ruin the story for you.   But I do have a few I would like to ask of the characters/Lauraine.  Over all this is one of those stories that you can easily read over a weekend.
