Because You're Mine - Collen Coble

Because You're Mine - Colleen Coble
Alanna has been plagued by tragedy. So it should come as no surprise that in the beauty that surrounds Charleston, all is not as it seems.
When her husband is killed by a car bomb while their band is on tour in Charleston, Alanna doesn’t know where to turn. Her father-in-law is threatening to take custody of the baby she carries, but the one thing she knows for sure is that she can’t lose the last piece of Liam she has left.
Their manager offers her a marriage of convenience to gain her U.S. citizenship and allow her to escape her father-in-law’s control. It seems like the perfect solution . . . but her doubts begin almost as soon as she arrives at Barry’s family home, a decaying mansion surrounded by swamp.
To make matters worse, Liam’s best friend survived the car bomb. She’s never really liked Jesse and now she can’t seem to get away from him. When he takes Liam’s place in their band, it’s almost more than she can bear.
But then things start happening. Things that could easily cost Alanna her life—or the life of her unborn child. Are they merely coincidences? Or is there something much more sinister at work.

P.S. I love this cover.

New Releases - January 9-14

Dear Readers,

After a few lean weeks things are beginning to pick up with the new titles arriving here at the store.  Thank goodness I was beginning to worry about my TBR list it was down to about 20 books on it.  Not good, it makes me nervous if I get below 25.  :-)

Happy Reading,

The Returning - Rachel Dekker - #3 the Seers Novels - Twenty years have passed since Carrington and Remko Brant’s baby, Elise, was kidnapped and they were forced to leave her captive in the Authority City. Though they fled with the Seers far from Authority reach, they’ve never given up hope of rescuing their daughter from the man who betrayed them. Now Authority President, he’s ushered the city into a new era of “peace”―one where the Scientist Roth Reynard’s Genesis Serum has eradicated all memory of emotion or rebellion.

Because You're Mine - Colleen Coble - Alanna has been plagued by tragedy.

The Cherished Quilt - Amy Clipston - #3 Neighbors of Lancaster County - Gregarious Rose Lehman, who's always the life of the Amish youth singings, is determined to marry the bishop's son, Reuben Byler--until the handsome Army buddy of her future brother-in-law shows up in Lancaster County. In comparison to Trevor, Reuben seems downright boring. Trevor shares Rose's sense of fun and adventure, and her easygoing disposition.

The Revolt - Douglas Bond - As a secretary at the battle of Crècy, Hugh West'all has come close to death. But when he meets John Wycliffe, he embraces a mission even more excitingand just as dangerous: translating the Bible into English, the language of the common people. Hugh's work helps him to understand the Gospel even as a corrupt and decadent church plots to choke Wycliffe's translation and silence him forever.

The Battle of Seattle - Douglas Bond - It's 1855, and tensions in the Pacific Northwest between white settlers and native tribes have led to scores of deaths on both sides. As all-out war seems inevitable, young William Tidd, an express rider for the militia, joins Charles Eaton's Rangers on a mission to hunt down Chief Leschi of the Nisqually and end the bloodshed before it escalates. Through skirmishes, raids, close calls, and betrayal-William's assumptions, courage, and faith will all be challenged in a few breakneck weeks.

New Release

Purgatory Road - Samuel Parker

When a day trip out of Las Vegas with his wife takes a turn for the worse, Jack is sure he has the ability to get them home. But he has driven into something far beyond reason.

Rescue comes in the form of a desert hermit, but hope fades as the couple comes to realize that the nomad has no intention of letting them leave. A chance encounter with a kidnapped runaway and her crazed abductor leads them all farther into the wilderness--and closer to the cold brutality that isolation brings.

At the edge of his sanity, Jack begins to learn that playing by another's rules may be the only way to survive.

In a voice that is as hypnotizing as a desert mirage, debut novelist Samuel Parker entices you down a treacherous road, where the forces of good and evil are as crushing as the Mojave heat.

P.S.Samuel Parker will be in our store on Tuesday January 17th signing his books and talking about what is next for him.

New Releases - Dec. 26 - January 6th

Dear Readers,

A new year and a new list of books to enjoy.  I am excited to see what the New Year brings in fiction.  What new authors that will be discovered and what new story ideas that are out there.

Happy Reading,

One More Song to Sing - Lindsay Harrel - More than two decades ago, Olivia Lovett left her old life behind in the red dirt of Oklahoma and forged a career in Nashville as a country music star. Now her voice is failing, forcing her to find a new dream just as the secrets of her past come knocking at the door. Long-time friend Andrew Grant agrees to partner in a new business venture--but would he stick around if he knew her whole story?

In the Shadow of Denali - Tracie Peterson/Kimberly Woodhouse - #1 The Heart of Alaska - Cassidy Ivanoff and her father, John, work at the new and prestigious Curry Hotel outside Mt. McKinley. While John will be expedition and wilderness exploration guide for the wealthy tourists, Cassidy has signed on as a cook's assistant. Both are busy as the hotel prepares to welcome the president of the United States on his way to drive in the golden spike to officially complete the railroad.

Friday Funnies

I also was the one who was jealous of the kids that were sent off to reading class.  I wanted to go with them.  A WHOLE class for just reading?  That must have been heaven.

Craig Parshall

Dear Readers,

The Occupied by Craig Parshall is a fun little read that makes you wonder about the people you pass on the street.  And to be completely honest, not always in a good way.

Trevor Black has a gift.  One he didn't ask for but he is now using to his advantage, well if he can stay alive long enough to use it for good.  He can smell a demon who is hiding in a human and because of that gift they are on the hunt for him.  They involve him in a series of murders that lead back to his home town.

In some aspects this book was a bit creepy, but there was nothing about it that made me lose any sleep.  But overall I really did enjoy this book.  It wasn't one I couldn't lay down, but it did make me want to return to it every time.  I wanted to know what was happening to Trevor and the murder mystery was a fun read and who the actual bad guy was.  Craig did a good job hiding the answer to that puzzle.  I had several guesses before I settled on who it was and why.

I think this is one of those books that older teens could easily read and it would be a great way to open discuss on things of the occult and how easily it is to fall down that path.

I am interested in what Craig next book in the Trevor Black series will be about.

Happy Reading,

I use to wish this would happen to me.

Stranded in a Library
(Sing to the tune of “Let it Snow”)
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the library’s delightful,
By the light of my cell phone’s glow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
There are so many to get lost in,
Like the Brontës, Twain, and Austen,
Or Harriet Beecher Stowe,
Let it snow, let it snow, Edgar Poe!
When the plows come at last I’ll find,
That I’ll mourn for my reading cut short.
But just look what I’ll leave behind:
A classical tome blanket fort.
Maybe tragedy for a while,
'Cause Euripides’s my style.
Or the long Russian tales of woe,
Let it snow, let it snow, Romeo!
As the storm goes on, I’ll get to it:
Harper Lee or C.S. Lewis,
Then Emerson and Thoreau,
Let it snow, let it snow, V. Hugo!
Oh, my TBR pile will grow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
