Patrick Carr

Dear Readers,
I absolutely LOVE spec/sci fi/fantasy.  Whether in books, in movies, or on TV, a well written spec story is one of my favorite genres.  I find it fascinating that an author/writer can up with something of which no parts exist anywhere.  Ok granted they usually use humans in the storyline somewhere, but there are whole worlds, creature and languages that they have to come up with and when they are good, they are so worth it.   Good ones make you want to go on that adventure, who of us haven’t wished we could walk alongside Bilbo because of the way J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the story?
Heroes Lot is book #2 in The Staff and the Stone series by Patrick Carr.  I am not sure what I would say makes a great spec fiction writer, but obviously being a high school teacher is a good idea.   That is what Patrick does in his “other” life and it seems to be working for him.
A Cast of Stones come out just a few short months ago and I can’t seem to keep it on the shelves here at the store.  If you haven’t already started the series you will want to start with that one, otherwise this book is going to be very confusing.  You may want to stop reading this review also as it will give away a few details of the first book.
Errol and his loyal supporters are back and looking to help the kingdom select the next king as Rodran is on his death bed.  Evil forces are moving to take over the kingdom as the veil is going to fall when he is dead.  When Luis and Martin cast to find out the name of the heir apparent they cause more problems for Errol and find no answers to the problems.
When Errol is found guilty of hanging out with and being friends with the herb women, he has a compulsion put on him to find Valen and kill him.  Errol realizes it is a death sentence and must choose wisely who will go with him.
Now most of what I just said you will remember from the first book because Patrick set up book #2 very well.  It was so very easy to move right into the story even though it had been a little while since I had read book #1.  I can hardly stand to wait for book #3 which is due out next year, but wait I must (bummer).
Happy Reading
